The holidays are in full swing, and Christmas is right around the corner. With a busy schedule that includes work, holiday parties and traveling, there’s hardly any time to go out and buy gifts. Online shopping is extremely convenient, and unfortunately cyber-attackers know this. So how can you stay safe while shopping online?
1) Listen to your instincts.
If something sounds too good to be true online, it probably is. If the seller is pressuring you to make an immediate purchase, don’t do it. Or if the website you’re on doesn’t seem legitimate, don’t make any purchases.
2) Read the privacy policy.
It’s tedious, but reading the privacy policy before you purchase an item can save you from credit card fraud. Make sure you know what the buyer does with your information, how your information is used and how you can stop the process if necessary.
3) Be safe with your payment.
The best way to online shop is with a pre-paid credit card. This way, if your payment information is jeopardized, your entire bank account will not be. Also, you won’t have to go through the hassle of canceling your card and filing a complaint with your bank.
4) Consider having your package delivered to work.
If you’re worried that your unattended package may be stolen from your doorstep, have it sent to your work’s office instead. Also, request that the package needs a signature to be dropped off.
